Sukkoth - An in depth look

Keep in mind that these words are the ravings of a madman. (Just take a look at my picture)

In this article I will attempt to do two things:

  1. As I am "the lawyer", I will give you the “legality” of Sukkoth.
  2. I will also explain a "picture" that comes to me when looking at it.

The first time Sukkoth is codified is Exo 23:16. This text is buried in the recorded occurrence of one night Exo 20:1-24:8. Mosheh came down from the mountain, where he was talking with the representative of Yahweh, and he told us the offer from Yahweh. We agreed and Mosheh wrote it down during the night, rising early to present it to us again and then enter into it with a ritual. The nations, Yisra’el, were formed (brought forth) at that moment. Our foundational law of government, and constitution are contained in those 3 1/2 chapters. The three national festivals are also there.

Who then are these things given to? Exo 1:1-5. All the children of Abraham get his promise, only the children of Ya’aqob, who were shamed (named) Yisra’el, gets this promise. The promise that we will be a light to the nations, which means we get to show them by example, how to live and interact with people, nations, and elohim. As always with Yahweh, any part of his family is open to the foreigner who is willing to turn from his ways and accept the way of Yah (his word) he gave to Yisra’el.

The festival is codified in more detail at: Lev 23:33-44. Yahweh tells us this memorializes our time in the wilderness, dwelling in temporary booths, until we entered the promise land. The whole of chapter 23 gives our national festivals (holidays, holy-days) which give us identity and draws a line of distinction between us and the nations. The yearly repetitions of these patterns proclaim who our elohim is.

It's story time. Legalists can be satisfied with the above.
